Over 300 Ballot Boxes Destroyed As Unknown Gunmen Burn Another Office Of INEC In Ebonyi

Fire has reportedly gutted the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The office was set ablaze by unknown gunmen. INEC disclosed this on Sunday in a statement signed by Festus Okoye, its national commissioner, information and voter education. According to the statement, Onyeka Pauline Ugochi, the resident electoral commissioner for Ebonyi state, reported that the attack happened at 10.00 am on Sunday. Okoye said although no casualties were reported, 340 ballot boxes, 130 voting cubicles, 14 electric generators and others were destroyed. He added that the incident has been reported to the  Nigeria Police and other security agencies for investigation and further action. The incident comes less than three months before the 2023 general elections. INEC in its recently released guidelines for 2023 electioneering campaigns for political parties, among other prescriptions, set boundaries on where political party rallies should be held, school premises being one of the prominent public places prohibited by the guideline. Suspected gunmen kill 2 Ebubeagu personnel in Ebonyi

November 19, 2022     admin EBONYI Suspected Gunmen have killed two member of the Ebebeagu Security Outfit in Ebonyi at Friday night shooting. SP Chris Anyanwu, Spokesman of Police Command in the state confirmed the incident on Saturday in Abakaliki. According to Anyanwu, the incident occurred on Friday night and two of the Ebubeagu personnel were shot dead. “Investigation is on going over the matter and no arrest have been made,” he added. Mr Monday Opara, resident in the area, told newsmen that the incident happened around around 7pm, Friday night at Ebebe junction, Ebonyi local government Area of the state. “They were victims but before they could get to the hospital, two died while others with bullet injuries are receiving treatment at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital,” Opara stated.

Institute trains Ebonyi farmers on soil resources management

The Nigerian Institute of Soil Sciences on has trained Ebonyi farmers and agricultural extension agents on the protection and management of soil resources. Prof. James Nwite, the institute's Representative in Ebonyi, said during the training in Abakaliki that it was inaugural in the state and was authorised by its zonal and national offices. Nwite said that the training aimed at having experts train farmers, extension agents and other agricultural production stakeholders, on soil resources protection and management. "The trainees are expected to utilise the knowledge gained from the training to improve their agricultural production systems for higher productivity. Gov. Umahi approves Christmas bonus for civil servants

  The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has directed that all civil servants in the State be paid their November and December salaries together before December 10, 2022. The Governor also directed that all Civil Servants should be paid a bonus salary of Fifteen Thousand Naira each, in addition to their two months salary paid together. The information is contained in a statement from Accountant General of the State, Emeka Nwankwo, made available to the office of the SA on Media and Strategy, Saturday. The Governor noted that the gesture was to give Civil servants enough time and resources to plan ahead of the Christmas and New year celebrations.
