5 PERSONS DIE AS CHOLERA OUTBREAK RAVAGE ETTAM, OKPUITUMO, IKWO LGA

Five(5) persons have been reported dead,following a cholera outbreak at Ettam ward in Okpuitumo,Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi state.
  This was disclosed by a management committee member,Ndufu Ikwo Development centre,Hon Igberi Kingsley,whose Ettam ward was ravaged by the cholera outbreak.
  According to Igberi Kingsley who is also a medical personnel,the incident began on 18th March,2025,and has since remained unabated with five lives already lost while about 23 victims have been rushed to Ettam Health centres on emergency situations. 
  Kingsley further stated that,20 victims have been treated and discharged while 3 are still at the health facility battling with their lives,stressing that more victims are being rushed to hospitals almost on daily bases. 
The management committee member,however,commended the Executive chairman of Ikwo local government area,Barr.Sunday Nwankwo,for his prompt response,by dispatching medical relief materials to hospitals for the treatment of victims.
   He called on the state government to urgently dispatch medical team to Ettam ward to tackle the cholera outbreak,to avoid spreading to other neighbouring communities, blaming the outbreak to lack of portable water,as residents drink water from the pond.

Kingsley,in the same manner commended WHO for also sending some relief materials to help treat the victims. 
  His words,"So far,five deaths has been recorded from the incident that started on 18th of March,2025.
 "About 23 victims has so far been admitted in Health facilities,Ettam and Enugu Ettam Health centres,while twenty(20) has been discharged,and three(3) still receiving treatment at the Health facilities,he added.
  The co ordinator of Ndufu Ikwo Development centre,Dr Ernest EJem whose development centre houses Ettam ward in Okpuitumo, has also made positive moves toward tackling the cholera outbreak,says,Igberi Kingsley.
 Efforts to get the reaction of the state commissioner for health, Dr Moses Ekuma at the press time,proved abortive as his phone number did not go.
