The E-birth registration of children betwen the ages of 0-05 years is very vital for national planning and development.
This is because, the data generated from the exercise helps government in population census
Other benefits of the exercise include, protection of children from violence and exploitations, access health care sevices and education, provide national identity and prevent child trafficing among others.
The National Population Commission(NPC),is saddled with the sole responsibility of carrying out the onorous task.
It is on the strenght of this that the National Population Commission in conjunction with UNICEF and National orientation Agency(NOA) are carrying out sensitization exercise nationwide to educate the populace
The execercise is expected to end on 31st December,2024,says,the National Population Commission.
In Ebonyi state, the exercise is receiving serious attention as governor Ogbonna Nwifuru has provided conducive environment for the success of the programme. He has ordered intensive registration of children between the ages of 0-05 years to boost the national census database of the state, which was hetherto, rated low by the 1963 census population figure.
In Ikwo local government area precisely, the executive chairman,Barr.Sunday Nwankwo has been on top of the crusade for effective E-birth registration of the target children as indicated by the National Population Commission and UNICEF.
Ikwo local government area, which ranks the largest local government area in Ebonyi state with 20 electoral wards, have about 45 trained Adhoc staff by National Population Commission, two per each ward to carry out the exercise.
Barr.Sunday Nwankwo who was not happy with the lukewarm attitudes of some adhoc staff in  carrying out the exercise as some of them could not registered any child, despite receiving training allowance, called on the councilors,Town union Presidents, management committee members, religious bodies and stakeholders of various wards in Ikwo local government area,to expedite action to ensure effective mobilization of women in their various wards,to bring out their children for the E-birth registration so as to counter the low population census figure of  Ikwo local government area during the last population census.
The Federal commissioner, representing Ebonyi state in the National Population Commission(NPC),Dr Jerry Nwankwegu, who came on sensitization visit to Ikwo local government area, charged the adhoc staff trained for the exercise to work hard, warning that the commission will not take it lightly with them,if after taking training allowance, fail to perform or register up to the required number in Ikwo local government area.
He charged the traditional rulers, councilors and Town union Presidents to be on their toes to ensure effective monitoring of the exercise, stressing that,IKwo local government area as the largest local government in Ebonyi state deserves adequate coverage.
The  state Director of NPC,Elder Mrs Agnes Echie, said, the E-birth registration is a child census that provides database on the number of children in Nigeria, stressing that the exercise will help federal government in its national planning, and protection of child rights, among others.
