LEADERSHIP TUSSLE AND 50 MILLION NAIRA SCANDAL ROCK EBONYI CAN

The crises rocking Christain Association of Nigeria(CAN),Ebonyi state Chapter, has reached it's  crescendo as the splinter CAN executives,led by Pastor Aloysius Nweke Ogah has continued to accuse the state CAN chairman, Rev. Dr.Scamb Nwokolo of occupying the position illegally.
   
Pastor Aloy Ogah also accused the CAN chairman, Dr Nwokolo of alleged embezzling over N50 million out of N100 million given to CAN,Ebonyi state by governor Ogbonna Nwifuru,during their Christmas homage at his country home,Oferekpe Agbaja,Izzi, last December 2023.
  
Pastor Aloy Ogah who made these wild allegations against the CAN chairman,during a press briefing in Abakaliki,said,the election that produced the CAN chairman,Dr.Nwokolo was illegal as Nwokolo is not an indigine of Ebonyi state,and again,there was no former announcemet or advertisement for the CAN election,before Scamb Nwokolo emerged.
    
According to Pastor Ogah," there is no state in Nigeria that a non indegine is holding the position of CAN,describing Dr. Nwokolo as unstable character that has made Ebonyi CAN his personal abode,having stayed 48 years in CAN business,causing confusion and crises". 
 
To seemingly buttress his point,pastor Aloy Ogah further alleged that Rev.Scamb  Nwokolo was responsible for the crises that rocked CAN in Anambra state,his home town sometimes ago which laid out a non indegine CAN chairman from Abia state in the name of Rev Dr.John Ndubisi, only for him Nwokolo from Anambra state, to come and head CAN in Ebonyi state. 
  
Pastor Ogah,said," State Christain Association of Nigeria has been vacant since Rev Fr Abraham Nwali left office, and called on Nwokolo to stop parading himself as CAN chairman in Ebonyi state.
    
Giving history of CAN leadership in Ebonyi state since the state was created in 1996,Pastor Ogah said,“From the time Ebonyi State was created in 1996, the chairman of CAN was first occupied by Bishop B. C. B Onyigbo from Anambra State, then Bishop (Dr) Onyenze from Imo State, then Bishop Akupusi from Abia State.

"At the end of Akupusi’s tenure, B.C.B Onyigbo wanted to come in the 2nd time, being pushed by this present Scamb Nwokolo, and we rose. We the indigenes rose up and said no and we protested, demanding that they should allow indigenes to rule the state as in other states.

“So, we went to Abuja where the national leadership sent Bishop Ajujungwa, who came and monitored the election. It saw Rev Dr Emmanuel Nshi of Assemblies of God emerge, which was the first time Ebonyi indigene became leader of Ebonyi CAN.“

At the end of Dr Nshi’s tenure, another election was conducted, this Nwokolo, who saw how we had stood our ground against non-indigene coming to lead us, went and mobilised both cash and thugs from Anambra and contested against Rev Fr Abraham Nwali. 

“When His Excellency, the former Governor, Engr David Umahi, saw what was happening, he intervened and we campaigned seriously and Rev Fr Abraham Nwali became the 2nd Ebonyi man to occupy that office.

“At the end of the tenure of Rev Fr Nwali, Nwokolo came up for the third time and the election was done secretly on 13th June last year. It was not advertised either on the radio or the newspaper as everything about the announcement was done in blocks. We asked what he meant that an election involving an entire state Christian is said to be done in blocks  

In a swift reaction,the Christain Association of Nigeria(CAN)through a communique read by the Head of Catholic society of Nigeria(CSN)block,Rev. Fr. Simon Eseni before newsmen,described all allegations level against their CAN chairman, Rev. Dr. Nwokolo as false,saying the splinter group led by Pastor Aloysius Nweke Ogah,acted in a bad way. 

   According to Eseni,“The Executive members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ebonyi State chapter arising from her emergency meeting held on Sunday 25th February 2024 deliberated extensively, noting that they have received with dismay the fictitious publication on the ‘Formation of Ebonyi State New CAN Excos and inauguration’.
  
And they have in their meeting pass vote of confidence on the state CAN executives  led by Rev.Dr.Scamb Nwokolo.
He further explained that Ebonyi state CAN is intact and has no faction.
  
It will be recalled that a new structure of CAN,Ebonyi state,led by Pastor Aloysius Nweke Ogah was a week ago announced by the splinter group.

EKA-AWOKE COMMUNITY QUALIFIES FOR WORLD BANK ASSISTED PROJECTS

By Ewa Nworie Eka-Awoke community in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi state was among the 54 communities qualified for CSDA support under the NG-CARES programme,a world Bank Assisted project.    Members of the CSDA committee from Eka-Awoke,elected to carry out the implementation of their community project,joined colleagues from other communities to receive intensive training on how to handle the projects. The training which took place at Re-maretona hotel Andsuite,Abakaliki,was meant to empower the committees of benefiting communities with the prerequisite knowledge on how to carry out the world Bank Assited projects in their various communities in line with the world Bank approved standard The training which was seen as quite impactful and result oriented,as members of the committees were seen answering questions correctly from the resource persons,kept the committees abreast of what they should know about the management of Agency's fund.
