Fire has reportedly gutted the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The office was set ablaze by unknown gunmen. INEC disclosed this on Sunday in a statement signed by Festus Okoye, its national commissioner, information and voter education. According to the statement, Onyeka Pauline Ugochi, the resident electoral commissioner for Ebonyi state, reported that the attack happened at 10.00 am on Sunday. Okoye said although no casualties were reported, 340 ballot boxes, 130 voting cubicles, 14 electric generators and others were destroyed. He added that the incident has been reported to the  Nigeria Police and other security agencies for investigation and further action. INEC in its recently released guidelines for 2023 electioneering campaigns for political parties, among other prescriptions, set boundaries on where political party rallies should be held, school premises being one of the prominent public places prohibited by the guideline.
